ATLANTA (May 31, 2017) – Atlanta United will host Charleston Battery at Kennesaw State’s Fifth Third Bank Stadium on Wednesday, June 14 in the Fourth Round of the 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Charleston defeated Jacksonville Armada 1-0 on Wednesday night in Jacksonville to advance in the tournament. A knockout style competition, the U.S. Open Cup (USOC) is longest-running soccer tournament in America and third-longest in the world. This year’s champion will be automatically placed into 2019 CONCACAF Champions League.

“We’re excited to play our USL affiliate club Charleston as we make our debut in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup,” said Atlanta United President Darren Eales. “This is a prestigious tournament with long-standing history that provides an opportunity for clubs to play in the CONCACAF Champions League, and ultimately the FIFA Club World Cup. We’re hoping for a long cup run in our inaugural season and are excited for the intimate stadium experience that Kennesaw State and Fifth Third Bank Stadium provides our supporters.”

The presale for Atlanta United Founding Members will begin Thursday, June 1 at 10 a.m. Tickets will go on sale to the public on Friday, June 2 and can be purchased here. Parking can be pre-purchased along with tickets for $10. In addition, a limited number of indoor and outdoor suites are available and can be purchased by calling (470) 578-7990.

Charleston Battery play in the United Soccer League are currently in first place (7-2-2, 23 points) in the 15-team Eastern Conference. In USOC play, the Battery defeated Atlanta Silverbacks 2-1 in the Second Round before defeating Jacksonville. Open Cup success is nothing new to the club, who most notably reached at least the quarterfinals every year from 2007-10, including a memorable run to the final in 2008. That run still ranks as the last non-MLS club to compete in the USOC Final.

Unlike MLS Regular Season matches, USOC matches cannot end in draws. Should the two teams be level at the conclusion of the 90-minute regulation, they will play two 15-minute sessions. In the event the score is still tied after an additional 30 minutes, the match will head to penalties until a winner is decided.
