Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals completely demolished the Ottawa Senators 6-1 on January 7th, 2020. Ovechkin, in the rout, scored two goals which puts him at 26 goals on the season and 684 in his career.
The two goals tied him with Teemu Selanne for 11th all-time in NHL history.
Ovechkin also reached another plateau with the multi-goal game putting him at 138 in his career, which is seventh all-time.
The best goal scorer of this generation has tortured opposing goalies, scoring twice against the Senators’ goalie Marcus Hogberg. This makes the 140th goalie that has been scored on Hogberg by Alex Ovechkin in his career.
It just doesn’t seem to matter much with Ovechkin as he looks to break some ground on the NHL’s top-goal scorer currently, David Pastrnak (32). Ovechkin is just sitting six goals behind him and is looking to take over the lead sooner than later.
The Capitals are back at home on Saturday, January 10th to host the New Jersey Devils. Ovechkin needs one more goal to officially pass Selanne to be the sole player on the all-time goals list at number 10.
