Titans Waste Cameron Ward’s Best Performance in a 41-20 Home Loss

Nashville, TN Week three of the Tennessee Titans’ season featured an AFC South matchup with the visiting Indianapolis Colts. After losses in the previous two weeks the team looked to right the ship and get their first tick mark in the win column at home.

Tennessee would end up losing the game, 41-20, to fall to 0-3.

Overview

The game started with a less than favorable opening drive as Cameron Ward would throw a pick six on his second pass of the game. Veteran nickel cornerback Kenny Moore III would take the interception 32 yards to make the game 7-0 early.

Ward would be fairly efficient and steady for the rest of the game, going 23/36 (63.8%) for 219 yards and a touchdown, his second of the season.

Offensively the Titans struggled most of the day. They seemingly couldn’t find a rhythm at all in the first half, only managing two field goals in their first six drives. Head coach Brian Callahan once again put his team in a hole with poor situational play calling to close the half leading to points for Colts.

The second half saw them pick up the pace and find general success throwing the ball. They would manage to score two touchdowns on their first two drives of the half, posting their first 20-point showing of the young season.

Shane Steichen had his way with the Titans’ defense all day especially in the second half. The team came out flat, allowing for the Colts to move the ball with little resistance whatsoever.

Indianapolis put up 365 yards of total offense, scoring 34 points in the game. This is the Titans biggest loss of the season and the most points the team has allowed this season.

Positives:

-Nerves Of Steel: Cameron Ward bounced back with a good showing after an early interception.

-WR1 In Year One?: Elic Ayomanor had yet another good week, posting four receptions on five targets for 38 yards.

Negatives:

-Finding Ways To Lose, Losing Recipe To Win: Tennessee for a third straight week has had a lack of urgency, bad procedural execution, and a ton of penalties that lost them a game.

-Missing Calvin Ridley: Ridley totaled one reception for 27 yards on seven targets in the game, his worst showing this year.

-Penalty Box: Tennessee had another week of heavy penalties, totaling eight for 68 yards against Indianapolis.

The Titans will attempt to avoid a fourth straight loss to start the season as they go on the road to the play the Houston Texans in week four.
