Red Alert – Arizona Cardinals 2023 Draft Profile

Team Needs: Edge, DL, CB, OL

No NFL team took a steeper fall than the Arizona Cardinals last season. They went from a burgeoning playoff contender to the third overall pick in a calendar year.

The team will now look to improve and compete in a division that has a championship contender within it. The good thing is that they have a foundation and options in the upcoming draft.

Tyree Wilson – Edge, Texas Tech

Mazi Smith – DL, Michigan

Emmanuel Forbes – CB, Mississippi State

Arizona has to address the revolving door they call a defense.

After letting Chandler Jones walk and J.J. Watt’s retirement, they should look to fill those holes immediately. Nabbing a blue-chip edge rusher like Tyree Wilson improves their team drastically. Wilson is a big body who can move with the best of them. His tenacity and aggression make him a perfect fit in any front.

Pairing him with a nose tackle like Mazi Smith would give the Cardinals a duo that can terrorize run happy teams and wreak havoc for years to come.

The Cardinals need help in the secondary as well. Since the departure of Patrick Peterson the cornerback position has been a weak spot for them and they could look to draft a young cornerstone. Emmanuel Forbes was the definition of a lockdown corner at Mississippi State this past year. Opposing QBs avoided throwing his way and for good reason. Forbes has tremendous leaping ability and ball tracking skills. His man coverage ability would round out this young defensive unit and solidify the Cardinals for years to come.

This may be a defense heavy draft for Arizona. Unless something changes between now and late April, expect them to dial in and secure their stoppers.
