College Football Top 10 Week 6 – Huge Shift In The Rankings

Another Saturday and more upsets. Not unusual until the top team in the country loses to a struggling, unranked team. While many college football fans are rejoicing Alabama’s loss, they are not out of the playoff picture. Things just got interesting. Here’s the new top 10.

 

(1) Georgia Bulldogs (6-0) defeated then #17 Auburn Tigers 34-10

The Bulldogs tamed the Tigers rather easily for the win. Quarterback Stetson Bennett went 14-21 for 231 yards and two touchdowns. Wide receiver Ladd McConkey had 135 receiving yards and a touchdown. The defense finally gave up a touchdown along with some yards but they had four sacks and forced a turnover.

Next game – vs. #5 Kentucky Wildcats

 

(2) Iowa Hawkeyes (6-0) defeated then #5 Penn State Nittany Lions 23-20

The Hawkeyes used a second half surge for the comeback victory over the Nittany Lions. Quarterback Spencer Petras completed 17-31 for 195 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Running back Tyler Goodson ran for 88 yards. The defense bounced back from a slow start, holding Penn State to under 300 total yards and forced four turnovers.

Next game – vs. Purdue Boilermakers

 

(3) Oklahoma Sooners (6-0) defeated Texas Longhorns 55-48

The Sooners used a big scoring fourth quarter to comeback and beat the Longhorns. The bigger story was starting quarterback Spence Rattler getting benched for freshman Caleb Williams, who went 16-25 for 212 yards and two touchdowns. He also added 88 rushing yards and a touchdown. Running back Kennedy Brooks had a spectacular game, rushing for 217 yards and two touchdowns. Wide receiver Marvin Mims had 135 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The defense struggled but got the necessary stops at the end while recording three sacks and forced a turnover.

Next game – vs. TCU Horned Frogs

 

(4) Cincinnati Bearcats (5-0) defeated Temple Owls 52-3

There was no letdown as the Bearcats pounded the Owls in an easy win. Quarterback Desmond Ridder was sharp, going 22-30 for 259 yards with three touchdowns. Running back Jerome Ford ran for 148 yards and two touchdowns. Wide receiver Alec Pierce had 93 receiving yards and a touchdown. The defense was terrific, holding Temple under 300 total yards along with getting six sacks and forcing three turnovers.

Next game – vs. UCF Golden Knights

 

(5) Kentucky Wildcats (6-0) defeated LSU Tigers 42-21

The Wildcats used a big second half to pull away from the Tigers. Quarterback Will Lewis was efficient, going 14-17 for 145 yards and three touchdowns. Running back Carlos Rodriguez Jr. rushed for 147 yards and a touchdown. The defense gave up some yards but had four sacks and forced a turnover.

Next game – at #1 Georgia Bulldogs

 

(6) Michigan Wolverines (6-0) defeated Nebraska Cornhuskers 32-29

The Wolverines kicked a late field goal to outlast the Cornhuskers. Quarterback Care McNamara went 22-35 for 255 yards and an interception. Running back Hassan Haskins ran for 123 yards and two touchdowns. The defense had trouble containing Nebraska’s offense but forced two turnovers.

Next game – vs. Northwestern Wildcats

 

(7) Alabama Crimson Tide (5-1) lost to Texas A&M Aggies 41-38

The Crimson Tide couldn’t withstand two red zone turnovers which caused the loss to the Aggies. Quarterback Bryce Young was off target, going 28-48 for 369 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. Running back Brian Robinson Jr. ran for 147 yards. Wide receiver Jameson Williams had 146 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The defense couldn’t get key stops on Texas A&M’s game winning drive and paid dearly for it.

Next game – at Mississippi State Bulldogs

 

(8) Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (6-0) defeated Arkansas State Red Wolves 52-20

The Chanticleers simply blitzed the Red Wolves for the victory. Quarterback Grayson McCall was superb, going 18-23 for 365 yards and four touchdowns. Running back Shermari Jones ran for 113 yards and a touchdown. Tight end Isaiah Likely couldn’t be covered with 232 receiving yards and four touchdowns. The defense held Arkansas State under 300 total yards, had three sacks and forced a turnover.

Next game – at Appalachian State Mountaineers

 

(9) Ohio State Buckeyes (5-1) defeated Maryland Terrapins 66-17

The Buckeyes destroyed the Terrapins for the win. Quarterback CJ Stroud was awesome, completing 24-33 for 406 yards and five touchdowns. Running back Treveyon Henderson rushed for 102 yards and two touchdowns. Wide receivers Chris Olave (120 receiving yards/two touchdowns) and Javon Smith-Njibga (103 receiving yards) were making plays all game. The defense gave up some yards but had four sacks and forced two turnovers.

Next game – at Indiana Hoosiers

 

(10) Michigan State Spartans (6-0) defeated Rutgers Scarlet Knights 31-13

The Spartans wired down the Scarlet Knights in the win. Quarterback Payton Thorne went 16-27 for 310 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. Running back Kenneth Walker III was a workhorse, rushing for 232 yards and a touchdown. Wide receiver Jalen Nailor had a monster game with 221 receiving yards and three touchdowns. The defense shut out Rutgers in the second half, had four sacks and forced a turnover.
