The Cleveland Cavaliers have decided to move on from center Andre Drummond. An agreement between the Cavaliers, the two-time All-Star Drummond and his agent, Jeff Swartz, has been made that he will no longer be active but will remain on the team as they work to find a trade partner.
Drummond became expendable when the Cavs made a trade with the Brooklyn Nets to acquire center Jarrett Allen in a three-team deal earlier this season that involved James Harden going from the Houston Rockets to the Nets.
Drummond (27 years old) is playing on a $28.7 million expiring contract, averaging 17.5 points and 13.5 rebounds this season in 25 starts. There’s said to be several teams interested in trading for him but a contract buyout hasn’t been discussed at this time.
His replacement Jarrett Allen is 22 years old and is averaging 13.2 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.7 blocks. Cleveland believes Allen is the future and will work to get him re-signed since he is set to be a restricted free agent at the end of this season.
The Cavaliers are 10-18 and currently sit at the 13th seed in the Eastern Conference.
