NFL Power Rankings Week 14 – A Saturated Land

Ab Stanley

The more the NFL season progresses, the more uncertain it seems to get. In years past we’ve already got a clear picture of the team to beat and the ones that can beat them. Right now we can’t differentiate a playoff team from a team that will end up picking in the top half of next year’s draft.

These last few weeks should (hopefully) provide some interesting answers.

1.  Kansas City Chiefs (11-1)
Kansas City’s defense has forced four turnovers in their last two games and a total of 19 this season. For all their offensive accolades, they are playing pretty good defense in most of their games.

2.  New Orleans Saints (10-2)
In Taysom Hill’s three starts at quarterback, the Saints are averaging 200.6 rushing yards per game. The game plan has changed with the new quarterback under center, but the results have not.

3.  Pittsburgh Steelers (11-1)
After a few near misses, the Steelers finally lost a game this season. Will this redirect their focus to winning a Super Bowl or is this the beginning of a downward trend?

4.  Green Bay Packers (9-3)
The Packers lead the NFL, averaging 31.6 points per game. They have won two straight games and they face one opponent with a winning record in their last four.

5.  Buffalo Bills (9-3)
Buffalo has won five out of six games, but still only lead the AFC East by one game. They’ll have a tough stretch in their final four games including Pittsburgh, New England, and Miami.

6.  Cleveland Browns (9-3)
The Browns have won four straight games and assured themselves of a winning season with their ninth victory. The last time the Browns finished the season with a winning record was 2007.

7.  Indianapolis Colts (8-4)
The Colts are in a dogfight for the AFC South division title. They have four weeks to prove they are a top AFC team or if they are just holding up a playoff position meant for another squad.

8.  Tennessee Titans (8-4)
The Titans had their worst rushing totals of the season and they still managed to score 35 points. They average 29.9 points and 150.1 rushing yards per game this season.

9.  Los Angeles Rams (8-4)
The Rams have won three out of four games, averaging 27.0 points per game. Have they solidified themselves as the best team in the NFC West?

10.  Seattle Seahawks (8-4)
The loss to the Giants is Seattle’s first loss to a team with a losing record this season. They play one remaining game against a team with a winning record.

11.  Miami Dolphins (8-4)
The Dolphins have the number two scoring defense in the NFL, with an overall season point differential of 91. This should bode well with their toughest matchup of the season coming up against Kansas City.

12. Baltimore Ravens (7-5)

The Ravens had a season high 294 rushing yards against Dallas. Baltimore leads the NFL with an average of 169.0 rushing yards per game. Right now they are two spots out of the AFC playoff picture.

13.  Tampa Bay Buccaneers (7-5)
The Buccaneers come off their bye week to face the suddenly hot Minnesota Vikings and then three games versus teams with losing records.

14.  Las Vegas Raiders (7-5)
Thanks to a last minute call, the Raiders were able to avoid dropping two straight games to teams with a losing record. They are right on the outside looking in at a playoff spot.

15.  Minnesota Vikings (6-6)
The Vikings have won five out of their last six games. They have jumped into the last wild card position in the NFC.

16.  New England Patriots (6-6)
Bill Belichick and his Patriots seem to still have a few tricks up their sleeves. The 45 points they scored on Sunday were more than their last two outings combined.

17.  Arizona Cardinals (6-6)
The Cardinals have lost three straight games and have now fallen outside of the NFC playoff picture.

18.  New York Giants (5-7)
The Giants have now forced 20 turnovers this season, ranking them third in the league. They have 10 of those turnovers on their current four game winning streak.

19.  Washington Football Team (5-7)
Washington pulled off the upset of the season by handing the Steelers their first loss. They are in a tie for first place in the NFC East and they only face one opponent with a winning record the rest of their season.

20.  Chicago Bears (5-7)
Chicago tied a season high by scoring 30 points, but allowed 34 points to Detroit. They’ve allowed 75 points in their last two contests, which is more than the previous three games combined.

21.  San Francisco 49ers (5-7)
The 49ers have lost four out of their last five games. They have recorded 13 turnovers during that stretch.

22.  Houston Texans (4-8)
Houston had their two game winning streak snapped, recording two turnovers in the second half on Sunday. They only had 10 turnovers combined coming into the game.

23.  Detroit Lions (5-7)
After firing their head coach, Detroit scored their season high with 34 points. They overcame a 10 point fourth quarter deficit to grab their fifth win of the season.

24.  Carolina Panthers (4-8)
The Panthers come off their bye week to face Denver, then a trip to Lambeau field to face the Packers.

25.  Atlanta Falcons (4-8)
In their last two losses, the Falcons have scored a total of 25 points. Those two losses have come at the hands of the Taysom Hill led Saints.

26.  Denver Broncos (4-8)
If the game was over after one half, Denver would have defeated the Chiefs behind a great defensive effort. Unfortunately there was a second half and Denver lost the game, but they still played great defense.

27.  Los Angeles Chargers (3-9)
The Chargers didn’t score a point and turned the ball over twice in a blowout loss to the Patriots. This was the only time this season they didn’t score double digits in points.

28.  Philadelphia Eagles (3-8-1)
Has a quarterback controversy popped up in Philadelphia all of a sudden? Carson Wentz has continued to struggle and Jalen Hurts came in the game with a bit of a spark on Sunday. Hurts was named the starter for the game versus the Saints.

29. Dallas Cowboys (3-9)

The Cowboys have allowed 30 or more points in seven games this season. With losses in six out of their last seven, Dallas is most likely out of the division title race.

30.  Cincinnati Bengals (2-9-1)
With two different skirmishes and two players ejected on Sunday, the Bengals didn’t look too hot over the weekend. The seven points they scored was their second lowest of the season.

31.  Jacksonville Jaguars (1-11)
Jacksonville’s monumental losing streak continues after their only win of the season in week one. They’ve lost their last two games by a total of five points.

32.  New York Jets (0-12)
The Jets fired their defensive coordinator for a gutsy, but downright ridiculous play call at the end of their game on Sunday. Didn’t he know the Jets are trying to be incognito with their tank job?
