1)  Alabama Crimson Tide (12-0): def Auburn Tigers 30-12

Last week-1

The Crimson Tide finished off a perfect regular season in the “Iron Bowl” over in state rival Tigers. The offense was not as crisp but got the job done. The defense was the story again, giving up less than 200 total yards. They have not given up a touchdown the last four games. All I have to say is good luck to offenses who have to face them. Alabama plays the Florida Gators in Atlanta for the SEC Championship.

2)  Ohio State Buckeyes (11-1): def Michigan Wolverines 30-27 in 2nd overtime

Last week-2

It was not pretty but the Buckeyes made enough plays to win. The offense struggled for the most part although they found success running the ball because Michigan had no answer for quarterback J.T. Barrett escaping the pocket. The defense stopped the Wolverines running attack, making them one dimensional. Ohio State created three turnovers. Even though they will not play in the Big Ten Championship, they are a lock to make the playoffs.

3)  Clemson Tigers (11-1): def South Carolina Gamecocks 56-7

Last week-4

Some rivalry game this turned out to be. The Tigers mauled the Gamecocks from the kickoff. The offense finally resembled the unit I thought they could be. It was great balance with over 600 yards in total offense. The defense had little trouble stopping a bad South Carolina offense. They pressured the quarterbacks all day and stuffed the run. Next up is the ACC Championship game against Virginia Tech.

4) 1d21a6491f593e4b21676c8b6b73bcd1 Washington Huskies (11-1): def Washington State Cougars 45-17

Last week-5

This game was over in the 1st quarter. The Huskies jumped on the Cougars and never looked back in another rivalry game that was a blowout. It was a workmanlike performance by the offense and defense. Over 500 yards of total offense from efficient passing and running the ball. The defense was very good in holding Washington State under 350 total yards. Next up is the Colorado Buffaloes in the PAC 12 Championship game.

5)  Wisconsin Badgers (10-2): def Minnesota Golphers 31-17

Last week-6

The Badgers took care of their business against the Gophers. The winning formula never changes, run the ball, sprinkle in some play-action passing and play tough defense. Wisconsin rushed for over 200 yards, the passing game made enough plays to keep the defense honest and the defense gave up less than 300 total yards. Boring but effective. Next game is against Penn State for the Big Ten Championship.

6) PSU Penn State Nittany Lions (10-2): def Michigan State Spartans 45-12

Last week-7

The Nittany Lions are the comeback team of the year. They used big plays in the passing game in the 2nd half to defeat the Spartans. With the running game held in check, they unveiled their version of “Air Raid”. The defense did it’s job, giving up only four field goals and shutting out Michigan State in the 2nd half. Up next is Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship Game.

7)  Michigan Wolverines (10-2): lost to Ohio State Buckeyes 30-27 in 2nd overtime

Last week-3

The Wolverines lost a tough game against the bitter rival Buckeyes. The offense made too many mistakes that the defense eventually could not overcome. With the running game shut down, Michigan became predictable and had a hard time sustaining drives. Outside of containing J.T. Barrett from running, the defense was terrific. They sacked the Buckeye’s quarterback eight times and had 13 tackles for losses. They should get a New Year’s Day Bowl invite but how motivated will they be?

8)  Oklahoma Sooners (9-2): Idle

Last week-9

The Sooners had a week off in preparation for their rivalry game against the Oklahoma State Cowboys in Norman. This is essentially the Big 12 Championship game, the winner wins the conference and a New Year’s Day Bowl game. Advantage Sooners.

9) wvu-coliseum-95 West Virginia Mountaineers (9-2): def Iowa State Cyclones 49-19

Last week-10

The Mountaineers dismantled the Cyclones. The offense was clicking to the tune of over 600 total yards. The defense gave up a lot of yards (561) but kept Iowa State out of the end zone. West Virginia is in good position for a high end bowl game. Next game is against the Baylor Bears at home and a chance to make a statement.

10) 9e67a35dea22b81664256081d7fcdf45 Colorado Buffaloes (10-2): def Utah Utes 27-22

Last week-Not ranked

The Buffaloes get into my Top 10 in the final week of the regular season by squeaking by the Utes. The offense did just enough to help get the win. The defense was the difference though. They came up with four turnovers, including the game winning fumble recovery return for a touchdown. The offense will need to be better if they are to win the PAC 12 title against Washington.
